Lord Ganesha Ganesh, also known as Ganapati or Vinayaka is the son of Shiva and Parvati and is the first deity to be worshipped during any ritual as he's considered the remover of obstacles. Which also gives him another epithet, VIGHNESHWAR or Lord of obstacles. Curiously enough, despite his being apparently the heaviest Hindu deity his vehicle is a tiny mouse which is symbolically explained as his covering the entire span of the vertebra beings. Lord Tirupati Balaji An incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the temple of Lord Balaji is on the Tirumala hills in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh in South India. The eyes of the idol are covered with a cloth lest it burn down the world. This cloth is removed only on Thursdays. The nine days before Dussehra, every year is celebrated as Tirumala Brahmotsavam, the manifestation of Lord Balaji on earth. Lord Balaji is also known as the Lord of Seven Hills.

Radha Krishna Lord Krishna was the Divine lover of the gopis of Vrindavan, such that the music of his flute would prompt the gopis to leave their homes and dance to the tune of his flute. Krishna's favourite amongst them was Radha. It is said that Lord Krishna use to play the flute for her on the banks of Yamuna. Their friendship is so revered, that barring the Pandharpur temple, all temples of Lord Krishna have only Radha with him. This image has become a source of inspiration to numerous divotional groups. It has also inspired religious poetry, music and art.

Goddess Durga Durga is one of the most popular forms of Shakti or female energy. She was created out of the flames that issued from the mouths of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva and other gods to vanquish the buffalo headed demon-Mahisasur. This gave her the name of Mahisasurmardini. This victory is commemorated during the navratras, a nine day long festival in September/October every year. Goddess Durga is depicted riding a tiger or a lion, with a weapon in each hand to vanquish evil. One hand is always raised to bless her devotees.

Lord Shiva The third in the Hindu Trinity of Brahma and Vishnu, Shiva is also known by various names like Mahadev, Mahakaal, Tryambakeshwar, Bholenath etc., During the churning of the ocean, Lord Vishnu as the Kurma (Turtle) spat out a deadly poison, which would have destroyed the whole world. Lord Buddha The ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Buddha was born as crown prince Siddharth. Early in life he saw four signs of sufferings which made him renounce everything and search for The Eternal Truth. He wandered for 13 years before he finally attained the statehood of Boddhisattva or the Enghlightened One under a Banyan (Bodh) tree in Bodh Gaya. Lord Buddha's teachings are based on compassion and non-violence.

Lord Mahavir The last of the 24th Tirthankars of Jain religion, Lord Mahavir was born as Vardhaman. At the age of 30 he renounced all worldly ties in search of realisation which he attained after severe penance. He advocated mankind to conquer the senses, mind and eventually the self to become a 'Jina' or follower of the Jain faith. His main doctrine on which the religion rests is of 'Ahimsa' or non-violence.
